Terms of Use

Last updated: April 2, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Zip to Timezone Lookup API and website at ziptotimezone.com (the "Service"), operated by ZipToTimeZone ("we", "us", "our"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Service Description

The Service provides a REST API that returns timezone information for United States zip codes, including IANA timezone identifiers, UTC offsets, DST status, and timezone abbreviations. The Service covers all 42,000+ US zip codes.

2. Accounts and API Keys

  • You must create an account and subscribe to a paid plan to receive an API key.
  • Each subscription includes one API key. API keys are tied to your account and may not be shared, transferred, or sold to third parties.
  • You are responsible for keeping your API key secure. If you believe your key has been compromised, contact us immediately.
  • We reserve the right to revoke API keys that are being misused or shared in violation of these Terms.

3. Subscription Plans and Billing

  • Spark: Up to 50,000 API calls per month.
  • Surge: Up to 150,000 API calls per month.
  • Scale: Custom volume. Contact us for pricing.

Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually through Stripe. Prices are in USD. You authorize us to charge your payment method on file for recurring subscription fees. You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

4. Usage Quotas and Rate Limits

Each plan has a monthly API call limit. Usage resets on the first day of each calendar month (UTC). If you exceed your monthly quota, the API will return a 429 QUOTA_EXCEEDED response with the date your quota resets. Requests that return quota errors are not counted toward your usage.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to circumvent API key authentication or quota limits
  • Resell, redistribute, or sublicense raw API responses as a competing data service
  • Use automated tools to scrape or bulk-download the entire dataset
  • Intentionally overload, disrupt, or interfere with the Service
  • Use the Service to build a product that directly competes with the Service

You may use API responses within your own applications, websites, and internal tools without restriction. The timezone data returned by the API is factual information and is not subject to copyright.

6. Data Accuracy

We make reasonable efforts to ensure the accuracy of timezone data. However, approximately 40 US zip codes span multiple timezones ("border zip codes"). For these, the API returns the primary timezone with a note indicating the ambiguity. We do not guarantee 100% accuracy for border zip codes. DST status and UTC offsets are computed in real time and reflect current rules.

7. Service Availability and Infrastructure

The Service runs entirely on Google Cloud Platform and Firebase infrastructure. Service availability is governed by Google Cloud's infrastructure commitments. For details on Google's SLAs and uptime commitments, see:

  • Firebase Terms of Service
  • Google Cloud Service Level Agreements
  • Firebase Service Level Agreement

We build on these commitments but do not offer a separate SLA beyond what Google Cloud provides. We may perform maintenance or updates that temporarily affect availability and will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice of planned downtime.

8. Limitation of Liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUE, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

Our total liability for any claim arising from the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

9. Termination

  • By you: You may cancel your subscription at any time. Your API key will remain active until the end of your current billing period, then be deactivated.
  • By us: We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms. We may also discontinue the Service with 30 days notice.

Upon termination, your API key is deactivated and API requests will return 403 FORBIDDEN.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
